DHB trophies from the 3D printer

Last weekend, the handball season finale between TBV Lemgo Lippe and SC Magdeburg took place, which was also the last game of six TBV players. As a farewell gift, the handball players received miniature editions of the DHB trophy. TBV Lemgo Lippe, sponsor Phoenix Contact and PROTIQ have joined forces to produce these mementos.

We have captured the process from the original to the printed copy in this photo series:

Fig.1: (from left) Max Wissing (PROTIQ), André Köller (Phoenix Contact), Andreas Sukop (TBV Lemgo Lippe), Artjom Dsuban (PROTIQ)
and Jan-Niklas Hagemeier (PROTIQ) with the original DHB trophy.

Fig.3: Max Wissing (PROTIQ) measures the trophy in order to construct a 3D model based on the data (Photo: André Köller/Phoenix Contact).

Fig.4: The finished 3D file of the trophy with individual lettering under the base.
Fig.5: The trophies are printed overnight using Selective Laser Sintering (SLS). In this case, eight trophies were loaded onto the machine at the same time.

Fig.6: The next morning, the trophies are taken out of the white "powder cake" and the excess powder is removed for reuse.
Fig.7: After blasting, the final shape of the trophy is revealed. The PA 11 plastic used is not only characterized by its high impact strength, but is also based on renewable materials (castor oil).

Fig.8: To visually match the original, the trophy is coated in silver.
Fig.9: The finished trophies are ready to be picked up and handed over to the handball players.
