3D printing for gastronomy: customized kitchen and catering products

Design studies of personalized waffle irons, branding irons with your own logo and custom cookie cutters – and what to consider for food contact.

Whether it’s a logo branded onto a burger bun, a custom waffle pattern for promotional campaigns, or a cookie cutter shaped like your own product: Additive manufacturing opens up new possibilities for personalized food presentation and brand communication. Ideas can be turned into physical products and tested within a short time, without the need for expensive tooling.

Particularly interesting for restaurants, hotel chains, bakeries, confectioneries, event organizers and marketing agencies, customized products can support seasonal campaigns, attract attention at trade shows and corporate events, or help make a brand visible directly on food products.

On this page, we present various design studies and application examples. They demonstrate the design freedom offered by 3D printing and show how creative ideas can be transformed into functional products.

Note on the products

We are currently unable to offer waffle irons ourselves – you may find what you are looking for at Neumärker, for example. For other gastronomy projects and ideas, please get in touch.

Customized 3D-printed products for gastronomy

Additive manufacturing implements customer requirements and creative designs directly from the 3D data – with complex geometries and patterns that would hardly be possible with conventional processes. Three design studies show what is possible.

Personalized waffle irons

Complex geometries and detailed patterns can be integrated directly into the baking surfaces – for waffles in individual shapes or with special embossing, such as your own logo. Design changes are implemented quickly, and prototypes are created fast.

Because waffle irons are exposed to high temperatures and come into direct contact with food, the material and processing are particularly decisive here.

Note: The waffle iron shown is a design study. We are currently unable to offer waffle irons.

Branding irons with your own logo

Branding irons, also known as steak stamps, can be produced precisely and individually – in different shapes and with detailed embossing. Logos and designs are integrated directly into the stamp surface so that pieces of meat can be marked individually: an eye-catcher for restaurants, barbecue events or corporate parties.

Custom cookie cutters

Cutters can be produced in almost any shape and size – ideal for themed baking projects, holidays or promotions with your own logo. Detailed and complex designs are implemented with high precision, and design changes are quick to make.

Here too: for contact with food, the chosen material must be suitable for this purpose.

Food contact

What should be considered for 3D-printed parts in contact with food?

A 3D-printed part is not automatically suitable for contact with food. The material, the processing and the conditions of use – such as temperature, contact duration and cleaning – are decisive.

  • Material: The material must be suitable for the intended food contact.
  • Heat: Waffle and branding irons are heated strongly – heat-resistant materials such as metal are suitable for this.
  • Surface and cleaning: Printed surfaces are rougher than milled or cast ones; finishing and good cleanability therefore play an important role.
