Vacuum casting
Vacuum casting is a manufacturing process that is used in particular for the production of prototypes and small series of components. Flexible silicone molds are used to accurately reproduce detailed plastic parts. The process is ideal for designing complex geometries or fine details.
At the beginning of the vacuum casting process, a master model is created, usually by 3D printing or CNC machining. This model is then embedded in silicone to create a precise mold. The liquid casting compound is then poured into this mold under the influence of a vacuum, which prevents air pockets and ensures a high-quality surface finish for the cast parts.
Vacuum casting impresses with its flexibility and cost efficiency, especially compared to other processes such as injection molding, when only small quantities are required. It is ideal for the rapid production of functional prototypes or for testing design ideas before mass production begins. In addition, it allows the use of different materials and color shades to meet specific requirements.
