Model validation

Model validation is an essential process in additive manufacturing, especially in the 3D printing of injection molds. The aim is to check a CAD model from various points of view to ensure that it is suitable for the printing process. The first step is to check the volume integrity of the model to ensure that it is closed and has no gaps or unconnected edges. In addition, the wall thicknesses are analyzed to ensure that they guarantee both structural integrity and material efficiency.

The model must be scaled correctly so that the finished parts meet the desired dimensions and specifications. Furthermore, geometric errors such as inverted surfaces or overlapping geometries are identified, which can lead to problems during printing. The printability of complex geometries and overhangs is also checked, with auxiliary structures planned in to ensure stability. This thorough validation process ensures that the final product meets the desired quality standards and functionally meets the requirements.
